Upcoming Techathons

Techathon 2022

Event Information

Introduction to the techathon

The techathon is a two-day coding competition where participants will work in teams of up to 5 or individually. Participants can choose one of three difficulties; beginner, intermediate and advanced.

For the beginner-level programmers, we will send out a document of a list of problems to be completed using a programming language called Scratch (Scratch 3.0 should be used).

For the intermediate-level programmers, we will send out a document of a list of problems to be completed using any programming language that participants wish to use (such as C++, Java, Python, etc.).

Beginner and intermediate-level participants are expected to solve as many of the problems on the document as possible.  Intermediate participants should clearly comment their code and both levels must follow a submission template that will be introduced at the beginning of the event. Each challenge will have an assigned number of points and the number of points gained will determine the winners of the beginner and intermediate levels as well as the podium finishers.

Advanced-level programmers have to choose a problem that they would like to solve and create a coded project (such as an application or website) to solve the problem; the project must have a GUI, coded logic in any programming language, and participants should also market the program to the judges. The project will need to be submitted to the judging panel so they can assess the project; we strongly urge advanced-level participants to come up with an idea of the project that they want to code prior to the techathon. Participants are instructed to submit their projects as a screencast going over all these different aspects of their project for judging. The judging panel will judge the projects using a marking rubric that will be shared with advanced-level participants after they sign up.

In addition to these challenges, participants may get the opportunity to interact with sponsors in the tech industry to get a better idea of the products and merchandise they offer, as well as how different firms in the tech industry function.

At the end of the techathon, winners of each difficulty level will receive great prizes.
